SUMMER HOLIDAY ART CLASSES – all ages:
What are your words for Summer? … and more importantly, what do they look like? Here are just some of the words that have been turned into artworks as part of the 1000 words for Summer 2011/12 Art Classes.
One day two friends came and started making a clay “cool surfboard” and a “bbq” with “sausages, lamb chops and a steak” before moving on to “choc chip cookies with milk and a note for Santa”. Before long we were all laughing about the “stupid jokes in the Christmas crackers”. Another day girl came by herself so there was time to teacher her how to lino print a “fruit salad” of “mangoes, grapes and apricots”. Another day a young boy came and made “bluebottles” with “jelly fish and dolphins”.
On other days, not shown here, a brother and sister painted “cherries” and “fish”, made imaginary “birds” and “bowls of fruit”. Adults came, alone or together with their children and learnt new skills in painting and drawing. One mother and daughter painted the same chilled scene of “a comfy chair in front of a window”, “A nice place to read a book”. Another pair both painted “flowers”. One lady simply learnt how to begin and another joined in with regular students. Everyone had such a great time and was able to take something home at the end of the class.
EASTER HOLIDAY ART CLASSES:
Last Easter students worked with the theme of an Easter Egg treasure hunt. Some hid them with bunnies in the bedroom, others upstairs. One boy made a plan of a house to show the best places to hide eggs. Another made a book to tell the story of the great Easter Treasure adventure! It is great to see children take ownership not only of their artworks, but also the process of how they create and what form it evolves into.
WINTER HOLIDAY ART CLASSES:
Last winter, it was cold outside, but inside it was warm with the activity of creativity. Both locals and those on holidays came along. One loved it so much, she came twice and another came three days in a row! Some mothers joined in the play having what will hopefully will be, a holiday highlight for years to come.
