First, if you are not already, log into Pittwater Spirit. Then, you will see a menu bar at the top of the screen, including the text “My Blogs.” Hover your mouse over “My Blogs” — a menu will pop down that has the name of your blog(s) in it. Move the mouse down to hover over the name of your blog, and a second menu will pop up. Move the mouse over the “New Post” text and click on it. Here is how the screen looks just before clicking on “New Post”:
(One little point here. You see here the entry box after “What’s new John?”? That isn’t the place to make blog posts. That’s for updates to your personal or group wires — I’ll explain more about updates and how they differ from blog posts in a later tutorial. For now, let’s just make that blog post!)
After clicking on the “New Post” menu entry, you will see a window entitled “Add New Post.” The first entry box under “Add New Post” is the title — go ahead and type in the title of the new post there. Then, click on the large entry box below the row of icons “B“, “I“, and so on. This is where you type the text of your blog post, so go ahead and type away in there! Here is how my screen looks right now, as I am typing this post:
Good! As you can see, at the top of the typing area are some formatting buttons. These are mostly self-explanatory (although there are a few that will be the subject of forthcoming tutorials) — feel free to try them out, but I would suggest at this point just proceeding to complete your first post! To do that, look over on the right hand side of your screen. You will see a panel that looks like this:
Press the “Preview” button to see how your post is going to look. This will open up a new browser window. If it looks good, then press the “Publish” button! (If it doesn’t look good, then go back to the Add New Page screen and revise your post.) Click on “Visit site” near the top of the screen to see your final masterpiece!
